Guide to Posting Images

You can include images in your posts or signature on the Forum and this guide will help you add them.  Please read carefully as the way this is done may be different to how other forums and message boards work.

Images in Signatures

Choose the ‘My Settings’ button at the top of the forum.

Click the plus sign on the ‘User Settings Tab’ to expand the settings group.

Copy the following code into the ‘Signature’ box and change the bit between the quote signs to contain the URL [ie. the web address] for your signature image:

<img src=”http://www.my-image-website.com/my-folder/my-signature-pic.jpg”>

A working example is:

    <img src=”http://www.themacdonaldbros.com/Portals/1/album.jpg”>

Click on the ‘Magnifying Glass’ icon to check what your signature will look like.  If the image does not appear either there is an error in your image code or the image you are trying to link to does not exist on that particular web server.

Click on the ‘Pencil’ icon  if you wish to go back and make any changes.

Finally to complete your signature click the ‘Update’ link at the bottom of the page.

Images in Posts

When posting a new message or a reply you can include images if you use the HTML code for an image.

The easiest way to do this is to add your images in first, then add your text.  If you add your text first it will be difficult to see where to add the image code as you will be using the HTML view.

Start by clicking the HTML view at the bottom of the message area then copy the following code into the ‘Message’ box and modify it to contain the URL [ie. the web address] for the image you want to post:

<img src=”http://www.my-image-website.com/my-folder/my-signature-pic.jpg”>

Repeat this for each image you wish to add then click the Design view using spaces or returns to separate each line of image code if you want.  If your image code is correct you should see your images in the Message box and you can add your text the same as in Microsoft Word.

If your images don’t display in Design view take a deep breath, click the HTML view and try again.

Troubleshooting
If you’re having difficulty working with images read through the following tips to try and find the answer:

  • All posts you have ever made will automatically include your current signature
  • Image hosting sites such as Photo Bucket may supply pre made image code for you to copy/paste into your Signature’ box on this site.  You need to select the HTML version as other Forum specific code will not work.
  • For signatures try to use images no larger than 420 x 60 pixels.  This helps avoid the Forum pages getting really long and separating replies.
  • You may notice the ‘Insert Image From Gallery’ button on the message toolbar.  This is not currently active and there are no plans at this time to make it active.
  • If your image didn’t appear and you select the HTML tab again you may find some strange characters have appeared in your image links.  Simply remove these and click the Design tab again.
  • For messages try to use images no larger than 480 x 360 pixels.  This helps avoid the Forum pages being forced wider than they are meant to be
  • You can resize images by left clicking them in Design view and using the handles to adjust the size
  • If you copy/paste the image HTML code into the Design view your image will not appear as the Message box converts your HTML code so it is shown on the screen rather than displaying your image.
  • The only space in the HTML code

Finally, if all else fails try asking in the Help Forum
